| I suppose the latter has already occured with the klyx source, but how

Started out quite similar, now klyx development is waiting for lyx to
come in a more "gui-independant" state so that the klyx branch can be
merged back into LyX before continuing development.

LyX proper has had huge changes internally since the split, and a lot
of bugs fixed. I am not sure how closely klyx has tracked those. LyX
are also on the verge to support hebrew/chinese/japanese and the the
difference will probably be huge.

However qt and gtk+ ports are planned and will hopefully not happen
too far into the feature (we need developers that can help with this
effort)
