As a matter of fact, French aren't the only ones to decide if cedilla could be abolished or not. This accent is used in other Roman languages, eg Portugese, as well, and ç has the same phonetic value in those languages. On the other hand, in almost all situations, except ê, circumflex can be omitted because it's just reminescences of 's' from Latin and Greek. Seak
