word2x is so named because it is supposed easy to add other formats. One could
add a LyX output end fairly easily and I will take responisbility for porting
it to word2x 2.0 when that is ready. It would be enough of a feature to
trigger a new release :-) I am not familar enough with .lyx format to write
one myself efficiently.

Actaully word2x is a little more complex. The transalation in more detial is
word -> almost plain text -> tokens -> reprocessed tokens -> output format
The reprocessing has been cleaned up for word2x 2.0 and recognises lists,
headings, tables, etc. A word 97 reading front end is on the TODO list and RTF
is on the wishlist. Obviously if anyone gives me either they get lots of kudos
in the credits and a new release of word2x 0.00x :-)

When I have done OLE support it will be added to 0.00x and a new release will
happen. Right now word2x only has "all versions of word", word 97 included,
support which misses quite a lot of the detials (in particular bold and
italics). Headings, lists, etc are reconstructed from hints in the text which
works some of the time.
