Now I see the problem (at last).  While LString is wrapping signed
char* , filetools.{C|h} does not care to handle negative characters
unlike LyXText::whatever()  Do you think it necessary to be fixed?
It is not difficult but it will take time, which I'm not sure I can
afford.
