At home, I have the latest.  At work, it's a wonder LaTeX is installed
anyplace.

So, Jean-Marc, what do you suggest to those who use LyX but have no
control over the LaTeX distribution?  Nag their sysadmins to death?
Give up using the characters '\', '|', '<', and '>', amongst others,
in any LyX document?

None of these is a reasonable solution.
