I am not able to reproduce this problem here... I guess it is due to a
difference of configuration between our systems. The probable reason
of this is that the francais babel option makes the > character active
to be able to handle >> as ».
Could you send me a .tex file with this problem? I'd also be
interested to see the .log file, to check the versions of the
different packages you are using.
