If I understand correctly, the problem is that, since LyX does not
like to have consecutive spaces, it adds when pasting this strange mix
of real spaces and ~, which do not make much sense anyway. It would be
better to actually remove the offending spaces. 

If you want to be able to paste

You are right of course. This is in fact similar to a change I did
recently to ensure that a Ctrl-Return does not generate \\ in LaTeX
mode.

I applied your edmar-3-prot_space patch. Sorry for the confusion.
