Currently, LyX can generate LinuxDoc files (a SGML DTD for doc
generation) and DocBook support is coming some day. As far as web
sites are concerned, the problem is that LyX does not aim at making
visual markup, but logical markup. I guess what we could do is
generate HTML which works with a given CSS style sheet.

Currently, LyX works under Unix and OS/2. If somebody feels like it, a
port to Windows should be possible, but it is a lot of work.

Well, if you want to help us, you can begin by telling what those
errors were, and what version of LyX you've been trying to
compile. The latest and greatest (almost) stable release is 1.0.0pre4
from ftp.devel.lyx.org:/pub/lyx.
