Could you please send the patch so we can evaluate whether it could be
incorporated to 1.0.2?

Indeed, currently one has to use an external bibtex browser, which it's
not so bad anyway, since you can do several other useful things with your
bibtex db. But if one only wants to insert citations in a document, a
solution like yours is perfect.
