We might need it (and the other TeX fonts encoding) if we use real TeX
fonts (either PK or PS Type1) for display. So it might be useful to
support it, but I do not know much about that.

Well, it would just be LaTeX+latin1, where the other characters would
be obtained with LaTeX accent commands or LaTeX macros (\l, \L,
although I'm not sure whether those are part of latin1 or not).
