Making a full blown sgml/xml processor is certainly a lot of
work. Moreover, since LaTeX is still the main target of LyX, we have
to stay inside what LaTeX understands.

There are some free servers around. Provided you have the necessary
free disk space (and probably free time), there should not be big
problems.
