Thanks for the code. There is something I do not understand here: I
would have thought that your changes require using graphicx.sty
instead of graphics.sty. So wouldn't it be necessary to use this?
Secondly, it seems to me that \resizebox is not needed anymore if we
switch to graphicx.sty.

PS: please send any new code in the form of a patch relative to latest
version (produced with diff -u). It helps immensly when applying
changes.
