I have some good news which you might like to hear. I got around to trying
to port LyX (pre 6) to WinNT using the latest Cygwin library. The previous
library was pretty bothersome. I was able to configure and compile LyX
without ANY change to LyX sourcefiles or the configuration script this
time. Also, I now got all the features (except LyXserver) working under
WinNT. I have inline view of pictures, spellingcheck, texcheck and
importing LaTeX all working smoothly.
I strongly suggest that the PR folks mention this and that the information
which is found on my LyX-page is included in the distribution. Change or
copy at will.
Right now, I have updated my page so that the binaries can be downloaded.
To get it working more nicely however I should make available links to
ports of the needed packages (like libXpm, ghostscript, etc.). This will
have to wait however, since I need to finish a paper before monday...
