A few comments. Take what you want from that, but beware that none of
my sentences parse correctly and can be directly used :)

There should be something directed to LaTeX users saying that, while
intensive emacs+auctex users might prefer to continue as is, LyX can
considerably speed up writing of LaTeX documents and that great care
have been taken of producing good loking LaTeX code. Moreover, any
arbitrary LaTeX code can used in documents.

The idea is that we should not present LyX only from the wordprocessor
point of view. I don;t know whether a mention of Scientific word would
be good somewhere.

Perhaps something like ``over 1000 pages of documentation'' (I don't
know how many pages there are, but I'm sure that's a lot).

I'm not sure about this paragraph, but I have nothing better to
propose...

Maybe ``which means in particular that...''

You should rather take the ANNOUNCE from the current version, where
the list of mirrors have been somewhat updated:

with mirrors at

        ftp://alpha.tat.physik.uni-tuebingen.de/pub/lyx
        ftp://ftp.lip6.fr/pub/lyx/

Binaries for i386-Linux are also available at your local metalab
(previously known as sunsite) mirror:
