I would suggest you don't generate a huge export file. Archive your emails to a
local folder and then export your account data when it is reduced to a
reasonable size.

T'bird prefers files sizes of <2Gb. I have the export file in my Documents
folder. I am sure there must be a way to get a good result, but I do not know
how.
