The Gen10 refresh does _not_ yet have a ThinkWiki page. https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:X1_Carbon (nor does Gen8 or Gen9). Historically, the X1 Carbon series has been superb for Linux. Eventually. But... Here's a third-party assessment: https://www.xda-developers.com/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-carbon-gen-10-linux/ Reviewer claims that you can optionally order a preload of some Fedora or Ubuntu. Reviewer than somewhat vaguely implies that the customer can just install the Linux of choice from installation media, but there's no showing that he did so. FWIW, I looked on Lenovo's product pages, and saw _no_ mention of a Linux preload option. I suspect the reviewer is mistaken. This Reddit thread mentions problems with Linux on Intel's 10nm "Tiger Lake" processor microarchitecture, and there are signs of a variety of teething issues in diverse areas: https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/tqyyc1/thinkpad_x1_carbon_gen_10_with_linux/ My _own_ longtime rule of thumb is "Yes, top-line ThinkPads are wonderful, but never buy models when they're new, but rather give them about 2 years to season. Cabernet Sauvignon, not Beaujolais Nouveau. ;-> _______________________________________________ luv-main mailing list -- [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected]
