This sounds great! Recently I’ve been planing to build a personal archive hub, which should act like a private version of archive.org way back machine and I believe setting up something like archivebox.io can be a nice training task.
Speaking of BSDs, a OpenBSD VM acting as a wireguard/IPSec sounds good to me :) Lots of fun with pf, bgpd, wg, etc... I’ve been running OpenBSD as a KVM guest for a few years now, it has been solid even on my unstable setup.
