Unless you need PPAs, why not have a look at LMDE? It's Debian Buster
with most of the mint specific packages added, and backports enabled.
I'm running kernel 5.9.0-0.bpo.5-amd64. I saw that 5.11 is now
available, but an install of the kernel said I have the latest already.
Only downside is that it's Cinnamon DE only. If you like something else
more, you'll have to install it yourself. Not that Cinnamon is a bad DE.
I try it occasionally, but something happens and I revert to Mate.
