Not sure about pop3; but I gave up on  Gmail (also google-drive etc) in
disgust;
 when I discovered they wouldn't let me logon;
with out knowing my IP address
... I believe Hotmail and Yahoo are much the same !
For 'semi-anonymous' , free email (mostly commercial stuff);
I now use :https://www.vfemail.net where I am "mclrhn at vfemail dot net";
which is accessible via TOR
