The Arch Linux wiki has some potentially useful documentation on getting CUPS to play with this proprietary system from Canon. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Canon_CAPT One thing to note is that the documentation assumes systemd (as that's Arch's default these days I believe) but I suspect the rest of the documentation would be useful to you.
