Sounds to me like the window manager is crashing and not respawning.
I guess that would be Cinnamon.
I'm running cinnamon-2.4.6-2.fc21.x86_64.
I'll see if there are any bug reports.
It seems it might be muffin that's managing windows on cinnamon.
An update to muffin just arrived, so hopefully that will improve things.
