Hello Toby,
Well I now have success, at least with the one legacy boot DVD that has served as my main test case.
You will see below, that my settings were 'almost' what you suggested.

Some stuff for you to check in your BIOS, referring to where to find

The "CSM" option is probably the most critical one you've missed, but
the others will help too.

Page 3-49 - CSM (Compatibility Support Module) - set to "Enabled".
That should make some options appear:
* Boot Device Control - set to "UEFI And Legacy"
* Boot from storage devices - set to "Both" or perhaps in your case,
"Legacy first".

My settings were all as you suggest. For the latter I'm using "Both".

Page 3-50 - Secure Boot - set to "Other OS".

This was my setting

While you're there, also "Install default secure boot keys" in case
they were screwed up somehow.

I haven't monkeyed with this, as I'm booting Fedora 21 OK.

Page 3-47 - Fast Boot - Set to Disabled.

was my setting.

Page 3-47 - SATA Support - Set to All Devices

was my setting, but this option is only available if "Fast Boot" set to enabled, so put it back to "Fast Boot" disabled.

Page 3-48 - Boot logo display - set to "Disabled" in case there are messages.

I had this enabled, now set to "Disabled".

Page 3-49 - Option ROM messages - set to Enabled.

was my setting

Page 3-37 of your manual -- "Legacy USB Support" - set to "Enabled",
or at least "Auto".

was set to "Enabled", left it there.

Page 3-38 of your manual -- xHCI Mode - set to Smart Auto.

was my setting

Same page. Mass Storage Devices - set to Auto.

I don't have this option

Page 3-35 of your manual -- "SATA Mode Selection - set to AHCI

was my setting.

So, the only real change I have made is Boot logo display set to "Disabled", and it now boots legacy boot DVD. Curious that this would be the cause of my problem, but hardly worth trying to figure out why.

As I surmised, nought to do with the installed OS.

Many thanks for your help

Cheers,

Terry Duell
