Windows supports AHCI out of the box with no extra drivers required since 
Windows Vista.

However, you cannot change from IDE to AHCI after installing Windows, as it is 
fussy about its boot device changing.  If you change from IDE to AHCI (or vice 
versa), you’ll get a 0x0000007b blue screen, requiring either obscure registry 
hacks from a live CD (google for ‘mergeide’), or a reinstall.
