Except that current binary packages (.deb) will be built against current
library soversions.  On an old release the versions will probably be too
old, or not present at all.

It's possible to finesse such things, but the difficulty is proportional
to the size/complexity of the package, and how far you need to backport
it.  For the OP's goal, both are significant.

There may also be backport & ppa repos; can't see any of the former for
LO4 on lucid:
