no use mucho ubuntu, pero lanzando sudo kedit no lo ejecutas con privilegios de root?¿?, sino lo que podes hacer es en tu usuario en X aceptar las conexiones con un Xhost + localhost y dsp exportar el display de root (export DISPLAY=localhost:0) y listo ^^
