> Apart from this I'm using syslinux instead of grub2. > > @Ralf M Been pondering this last sentence of yours for awhile, then yesterday I had some "broken patch" error on a Ubuntu-MATE devel/groovy hybrid system that I have going, and something about that once again messed up the grub2 menu access, so that the only linux system that would boot was the U-MATE option out of the 5 that should have been there . . . the grub2 menu list wasn't showing up, only "system not found hit any key to continue." I had to again get the SG2 disk out and fiddle around trying to get something else to boot up, got back into Tumbleweed . . . ran their Yast bootloader and then their console "os-prober" command to get back into the regulargrub2 boot menu. While I was there I ran a zypper for "1078 packages" and somewhere in there I saw that "syslinux" was upgrading . . . so OpenSUSE seems to have both grub2 & syslinux?? I and like 20 other people have posted on a launchpad bug report, "grub menu hidden"??? reporting problems with grub2 on installation and in my case, just in general use . . . one of the "devs" on that bug report recently said, "This bug is not actionable, because of conflicting data posted in the bug report . . . " that bug has been up for many, many months . . . and they seem to be saying that "It's by design the grub menu isn't appearing" ????? I'd be curious if you could give any pointers on the difference between grub2 and syslinux for booting multiple distros . . . in my case I have 5 linux and 5 OSX . . . might be adding another linux into the mix once I figure out which one might be amusing . . . but, I am close to ditching grub2 due to its "instability" when dealing with OSX security updates and seemingly with ubuntu updates as well?? Any pointers on why you choose syslinux over grub2?? Thanks, F
