Hi again. I used to have one of those 07 MBP laptops, though I was at least the 3rd (or fourth) owner, and received it because it had some issues... It would not boot nicely with any image, except for the Mac specific ones, and the NVidia graphics card was most annoying (no working nouveau, you need proprietary drivers, which are usually not as good as nouveau is).

The older Macs have a strange hybrid system that is a bit troublesome. 14.04 was the last version I was able to boot on that model. So I simply installed it and upgraded to 16.04. There is probably another way you can hack the ISO image, or perhaps using rEFInd will allow you more control of the boot process, though IIRC there were still issues I faced trying to boot a more modern 64bit ISO. Later Macs do NOT have this issue, regular amd64 images have the right EFI setup on the ISO to boot them nicely.
