Thank you for your reply that allows me to work-around the problem.
I got it to work, created a shell-script for it, and created a desktop launcher to execute that shell-script. It would be better if there were a way to execute it in the auto-start processing, but I'm not sure of how to do that with a custom shell-script (or desktop launcher). If someone knows how to do that, I would appreciate the information. In looking around on the machine (but I can't find it now on my main machine), there was a desktop configuration file, and it had an "XRandR" section, that included a "mode=" and a "command=" line. Neither line had anything past the "=". I am wondering if I can put something there that will make it happen. Any ideas? Thanks again. At least this lets us use the resolution the monitor is capable of.

Hi Aere,

as I know, just place the .desktop file in /etc/xdg/autostart/, that should do the automatization at login. If you are using LXQt: It has an option in Session Settings for adding applications or scripts to autostart.

Could you paste the whole .desktop file? Would be a helpful context :D

Best regards,
Stefan

Stefan:

Thank you very much for the additional information. I will do as you suggest after a week or two of changing it manually (via the desktop launcher). I am holding off to see if the problem gets fixed via system updates.

If the desktop launcher were on this machine, I would just paste the text lines (opened via leafpad) of the launcher. Unfortunately, it's on a different machine, so I have to go there, put it on a USB drive, and bring it here.

Given how much you have helped me with your expertise, I will do it for you if you request it.

The latest release (16.04) has made it much more difficult to work with desktop launchers. You have to essentially build them from scratch.

Aere
