I humbly suggest a look at the cost and benefits of making i3 easily incorporated into the LXQT desktop.
This would require programming a plugin for the LXQT toolbar. Here is this version of a plugin that incorporates into XFCE and Xubuntu: https://launchpad.net/~aacebedo/+archive/ubuntu/xfce4-i3-workspaces-plugin Here is an example of how easy and effective it is is incorporate i3 into XFCE: http://feeblenerd.blogspot.com/2015/11/pretty-i3-with-xfce.html LXQT is faster than XFCE, and allowing i3 to easily meld with it is a perfect match that should exist.
