Hi guys and gals, As you may know, as matter of principal I've offered and been accepted as a release manager and general tidier up of wiki for ubuntu-GNOME as they restructure their own team structure. For those who still doubt my ability to test lubuntu along with Server, MATE and GNOME, they are wrong. But, that is for another day....
As GNOME are undergoing a major revamp of how their structure is, a thought that had alluded me for maybe two years entered my head. I've long wanted us to move from moinmoin wiki to a more 'flexible' system. It seems that ubuntu themselves are now considering a change. This would be a complete nightmare for existing wiki pages to be moved., But we have a chance to switch out LXQt to MediaWiki, this supports a downloadable e-book and translations as is shown on this site[1]. As part of this testing, I will be making a server available for Mediawiki just the same as a WordPress one looks after our lubuntu site [2] We have tried to make moin 'sexy'[3] but let us not be under any illusion, moin wiki looks like a dinosaur... MediaWiki is the one that can look 'sexy'. As part of my intial dealings with ubuntu-GNOME I have got to know a 2nd guy who can also offer free VM areas and I look forward to having us both use our machines as off site backup as a reciprocal agreement. Any design geeks or trainee wiki people are very welcome to get involved. It will be a great time and you can bounce ideas about and make design input to the new areas. These will then go for a vote by the members. Yes, you really can stamp your ideas onto 2 wiki areas and have input to other areas such as marketing etc. Go for it and take part!!
