Hi, there are ways you can turn off the computer and most likely use Wifi even if it is 'broken' For example, in a terminal you can sudo shutdown -h now This will turn your computer off For wifi you can systemctl restart NetworkManager || sudo service network-manager restart that should work with any version, but as Andre pointed out, you will need to provide more information. Are you using the unstable Xenial? Are you using Trusty? But there is very little reason to trash a computer, ever. I have a computer from 1998 that still works fine. I have some laptops that have required a few parts here and there but have lasted longer than a decade.
You can always try booting a LiveCD (or a live OS like Puppy Linux) just to ensure the computer functions properly.
