Ian, there is something that if you install from alternate installer lubuntu-software-center does not generate a list of packages. Their are several workarounds but the one I remember is sudo dpkg-reconfigure lubuntu-software-center. This will get the list of packages generated. There is something about the way the alternate installs that would mean changing the way debian installer works to get this to work on the alternate which is unfortanate.
