Besides the computer should be doing most of the work computing what is the best choice for the user. Not everyone who uses an alternate installer even knows what 'sda' means, let alone 'bootloader'.
The whole idea behind Ubuntu is 'Linux for Human Beings' so even the alternate installers should accommodate regular humans using it.
