Hi All,

The core of my backups is the use of tar and USB memory sticks, tied
together with a shell script.

The script takes parameters that either specify individual tar files to be
created (stuff, extra etc) or the complete set of tar files (all). Before
it creates a tar file, it appends info about which PC did the backup and
what time to a log file. This was useful so when I was working with the
backups on other computers I would know how up to date the data files were.

I'm not a bash expert (yet) but would it be of interest to you? It has been
in use, with updates, since 2012.

BW,

Ian
