Critical Bug 1256588 was marked as a duplicate of 996568 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1256588 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/996568 The short version is that ubiquity stops when the slideshow is starting, but after the HD has been modified/erased. Purging the slideshow package allows the installation to run to completion. I gather it is something python related.
