The Alternate image went through installation just fine but on first boot up, it presents problems with the graphics. Passing the 'video=radeonfb:...' option at yaboot allows the system to boot normally. This is something that the installer should have handled, the Desktop image did this correctly even if it needed manual intervention to boot the disk in the first place.
