Yaboot is the powerpc boot screen version (like grub2 in the amd64 and i386 flavors). When you get to a screen that say boot: You can hit enter of type Linux to get the bootup started. If you need to give kernel commands you would type " live video=radeonfb:1024x786-32@60" That would get you past a radeon kernel bug into a clean working desktop. On my PowerBook G4 I need that when I first start to get a live desktop because I have radeon graphics. Now the recursive bug is a kernel-sound problem and requires a kernel command like "snd-powermac.blacklist=yes" also. Now i always use USB flash drives for my installs and i have to get into open firmware to get the USB recognized. When i start the PB G4 1) Iand have the USB plugged in 2) I hold down Option+Apple Keys and o+f 3) then i type "boot usb0/@1:2,\\yaboot" not with the parenthesis 4) The kernel start and ram drive 5) I now come to the yaboot install screen and see boot: and information above 6) I type "live video=radeonfb:1024x786-32@60 snd-powermac.blacklist=yes 7) the radeon part is a graphic issue the snd-powermac stops the recursive bug 8) I then get a clean live desktop and make my hardware installs then. After the install finishes and if I typed everything correctly I do no need kernel commands to get to the fresh install. We are aware the graphics and sound issue are kernel regressions as the 12.04 powerpc installs without a hitch with the old kernel. Wow I typed more than I intended. I would recommend you spend some time reading the PowerPC facts good information there. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCFAQ/ Be sure to hit the PowerPC Known Issues link too Greg nm_geo -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-qa Post to : lubuntu-qa@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-qa More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
