I can only comment about 12.04/Precise. In Precise there is no need to add "python-software-properties" using the mini.iso whether performing a CLI install or if using 'tasksel' (if tasksel works).
I haven't tried a CLI install from the alternate image but I guess I should check. I'd be glad to perform any specific tests requested on either Oneiric or Precise. Just let me know exactly what you want tested and then give me a few days. AFAIK the lack of "python-software-properties" resulted in the inability to view or edit the software sources using a GUI, is that right?
