Hi everyone, A couple weeks ago Ali reached out to the Ubuntu Community Council (of which I'm a member) to express concern over control of Lubuntu.net
In the weeks since, the CC has had some great discussions with Julian and Mario about their work on the site and their vision, which I wanted to share with the team. 1. They are active! Both have access to the site and have assured us that they work with some Lubuntu Art folks. 2. Mario's team of contributors has a specific vision for Lubuntu.net that is clean, easy to maintain and contains official, important announcements and links to other resources where everyone can contribute (like the wiki, Mario specifically indicated that they want to leverage the ecosystem that Canonical has provided for teams) Now, there is obviously a communication breakdown between this team and Mario's team, so I've worked with Mario to come up with a plan: Instead of using Drupal, Mario is going to work over the holidays to switch the site over to Jekyll/Markdown. All of the site's code will then be placed in revision control (possibly github) so that contributors can directly submit changes for review. There will also a be an issue/bug tracker so contributors can use that if they aren't comfortable using the tools or contributing directly. In short, no more needing to directly email Mario or Julian to make fixes for you! And all change requests will be public so you don't need to worry that your email got lost or ignored, the whole community will be able to track the status of changes. When an issue comes up in the future it can be handled publicly. Now, I do ask that the team works to preserve the simple vision that Mario and his current team have for the site in keeping it clean and easy to maintain so I think changes should be confined to fix-ups, factual updates and other major issues at this point. Finally, Mario believes that a healthy ecosystem for Lubuntu includes a variety of resources, so neither of us believe the Lubuntu Blog is any kind of threat to Lubuntu.net and that it's a good addition to the Lubuntu project. So I'd suggest doing away with the plan to *replace* Lubuntu.net with the blog and instead focus on continuing to make the blog a great resource for folks who want the latest development news, calls for participation, tips and tricks. This is a nice complement to the low-traffic official news/announcement way that Lubuntu.net works, which is preferable to folks who aren't interested in development or a frequently updated blog. Keep up the great work, this team has done a great job in managing Lubuntu's social media presence and maintaining the new blog, so I believe moving forward with those focuses will keep you all busy :) -- Elizabeth Krumbach Joseph || Lyz || pleia2 http://www.princessleia.com -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-comms Post to : lubuntu-comms@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-comms More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
