StartUbuntu
StartUbuntu is yet another Community Project. I have found StartUbuntu for the
sake of WindowsXP Users. It has more activities than WOWLubuntu but still not
good enough because it seems everyone is waiting for the other member to do
something. This is not how it works. Anyway, that is a totally different topic.

I’m glad amjjawad brought this point up. I’m actually NOT a Lubuntu user,
although I am a (not yet registered) tester. I use Ubuntu and Ubuntu GNOME, but
I can’t hold up the remaining 7 flavors of Ubuntu (besides Lubuntu). We need
more StartUbuntu contributors running different flavors. Remember, the essence
of the StartUbuntu project is that there are 8 flavors of Ubuntu to choose
from. phillw reminded us early on that Ubuntu itself is very much a community
project, and that’s why we became StartUbuntu in the first place (from
StartLubuntu).
With that in mind, let’s kick-start the most awesome Windows-to-Ubuntu liaison
project ever by hitting the flavors and showing the XP users what we have to
offer!
That being said, I understand that we seem to be having a shortage of those
kinds of people... if we can’t suck in enough volunteers that run the other
flavors, I would suggest passing around an e-mail based signup sheet or
something. A commitment like that shouldn’t be that horrible if one has decent
hardware specs; it would just be a matter of throwing an image into VirtualBox,
VMware, QEMU or whatever one likes to use as a hypervisor, trying it out,
comparing it to key features of Windows XP, etc. (Of course, that wouldn’t be
practical for those of us Lubuntu users that actually use it because of its
capability of running on low-spec hardware.)
And, of course, I completely agree that StartUbuntu should have its own place
on Launchpad (and most likely its own mailing list) to help materialize more
support from outside the Lubuntu community in particular.
On that note, I end my rant. Feel free to build or detract as you so wish,
team. 😊
