Workshop on Modality and Quantification in Natural Languages
Satellite Event of Principia (Florianópolis, July 28–31, 2025)

https://logicandlinguistics.ufsc.br/wp/2025-workshop

We invite submissions for the Workshop on Modality and Quantification in
Natural Languages—a unique forum aiming at examining how modality,
quantification, and related phenomena (such as genericity and free
choiceness) manifest in natural language. This workshop is dedicated to
exploring the interplay between linguistics and logic, highlighting how
both classical and non-classical logical models can shed light on complex
syntactic and semantic phenomena.
Workshop Overview

At the heart of this workshop lies a commitment to exploring the two-way
relationship between logic and linguistics. Both fields are deeply
intertwined through various inferential processes—such as entailments,
implicatures, and presuppositions—that are fundamental to human
communication and reasoning. We invite original research that bridges
formal logic with natural language analysis, particularly studies
addressing the theoretical and methodological challenges at this
intersection. Submissions that also explore implications for pedagogy,
computational modeling, and the development of educational resources are
especially welcome.

*Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not
care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues
you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want
to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have
lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved
ones.*(Marcus
Aurelius, *Meditations)*
