The Department of Communication Science of the University of Teramo
(Italy) is opening a three-year junior faculty position as
"Ricercatore di tipo A" (RTD-A – Assistant Professor) in Logic and
Philosophy of Science to work on the project "Argumentation and
Foundations of Knowledge in the Digital Context”.

The following is a brief English synthesis of the description of the
sought-after profile, concerning both the expected teaching duties and
the research activities.

This research project aims to “analyse argumentative processes and to
investigate philosophical foundations at the basis of information and
scientific knowledge, in connection with the actual digital framework
and with the development of artificial intelligence”. In line with the
particular concerns of the “Piano Nazionale per la Ricerca” for
humanistic culture and for democracy and governance issues, it has a
focus on the development of logical and argumentation models under
uncertainty, with a specific focus on probability models, and on the
philosophical analysis of the latest directions in AI, particularly in
autonomous systems and big data technologies, with their consequences
in terms of knowledge. The successful candidate is expected to have
the ability to deal with the probabilistic and computational methods
in argumentation and AI and to combine them with the conceptual tools
adopted in philosophy of science.

The successful candidate should teach some modules in Logic and
Philosophy of Science, in the context of both undergraduate and
graduate programmes. The modules will be taught at the Department of
Communication Science. The teaching duties will also include seminars
and integrative activities. The teaching duties will concern in
particular topics broadly connected with the logical features of
artificial intelligence and with general epistemological issues. The
teaching duty will consist of a total of 350 hours/year, including 60
hours of lectures.

A major part of the teaching load and of the academic life will be in
Italian and for this reason a basic knowledge of Italian is desirable.

Scientific supervisor: professor Raffaele Mascella (email: rmasce...@unite.it)
