Nova Institute of Philosophy Universidade Nova de Lisboa Lisbon, Portugal Nova Institute of Philosophy (IFILNOVA) has just opened a call for 3 junior researcher positions for PhD holders. These are 100% research, full-time, 3-year positions, fully covered by the IFILNOVA’s budget provided by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). The monthly gross salary is: € 2.128,34 (± € 1.500 net), and includes a generous social security package (pension, holiday and Christmas subsidy each equivalent to a 1-month salary). The three positions are distributed as follows: 1) Joining ArgLab's research projects in Argumentation Theory, Philosophy of Language, Epistemology or Philosophy of Mind in the 2021-2023 triennium (1 vacancy); 2) Joining IFILNOVA’s research projects that establish links between Moral and Political Philosophy (EPLab) and the History of Philosophy (CultureLab) in the 2021-2023 triennium (1 vacancy); 3) Joining IFILNOVA’s research projects that establish links between History of Philosophy (CultureLab) and Cinema and Philosophy (CineLab) in the 2021-2023 triennium (1 vacancy); Candidates must hold a PhD in Philosophy, Communication, Art Studies or similar and a relevant CV with an AOS in the fields mentioned above. The positions are expected to start in January 2021 (or soon thereafter). All the documents can be submitted in English. IFILNOVA is a bi-lingual (English and Portuguese) research institute. Non-Portuguese citizens must reside within Portugal and work exclusively within the project during the grant duration. In 2019 IFILNOVA has been ranked as the only "excellent" research institute in the area of philosophy in Portugal, following the international evaluation prepared by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) - see here and here. IFILNOVA’s main purpose is to develop research programs focused upon human action and value construction at the ethical, political and aesthetic levels. In order to achieve these goals, IFILNOVA develops research programs on the theme of values, normativity of rules and argumentation aimed at the study, development and investigation of philosophical theories and their application to social practices and problems. These goals are pursued by four Laboratories with distinct methods and perspectives. ArgLab considers the problem of Value from a formal perspective: it investigates the conditions of possibility for value construction and normativity via the structures of reasons and arguments; CultureLab considers the problem of Value from a material and historical perspective; EpLab inquires into the role that values play in a variety of contemporary individual and collective experiences, by developing ideas from the history of philosophy with an analytical perspective; CineLab is dedicated to the philosophical thinking through of the moving image, and it develops part of its research in an actual, societal involvement with film.
