I also see that someone has given a pseudo-BNF definition of the syntax in https://github.com/qos-ch/logback/blob/master/logback-core/src/main/java/ch/qos/logback/core/subst/Parser.java
But this isn't included in the actual documentation!! Why not?
Not that it helps; it seems to define a rather different syntax than I was expecting for patterns.
