Yep, it helps, it's nice to know it's legally possible, It would be cool
to implement something like that here in Mexico.

Hi, I would like to ask you, if you have any experience with request
an Ubuntu trademark licence for commercial purpose. Czech LoCo would
like to make some common "goodies" like stickers and buttons or
t-shirts, but we can't without permission from Canonical (because of
trademark). We don't want to make milions, but many of Ubuntu users in
Czech asks for stickers and t-shirts etc. and we have nothing to
say...
[...]
Have you ever (as a LoCo) asked for permission while printing stickers
or making t-shirts?
No, we never asked permission, because the trademark policy[1] says:
--------
Community advocacy
Ubuntu is built by and largely for its community. We share
access to the Trademarks with the entire community for the
purposes of discussion, development and advocacy. We recognise
that most of the open source discussion and development areas
are for non-commercial purposes. We therefore allow the use of
the Trademarks in this context, provided the Trademark is used
in a manner consistent with the guidelines below:
* there is no commercial intent behind the use
* what you are referring to is in fact Ubuntu. If someone
is confused into thinking that what isn't Ubuntu is in
fact Ubuntu, you are probably doing something wrong
* there is no suggestion (through words or appearance)
that your project is approved, sponsored, or affiliated
with Ubuntu or its related projects unless it actually
has been approved by and is accountable to the Ubuntu
Community Council
--------
So as far as we understand, if you make & sell anything for your
locoteam, that is part of community advocacy (and of course, in case you
make some profits, those must be used to further support the locoteam &
promote Ubuntu), there is no commercial license required.
BTW: as a locoteam, you are (ultimately, but usually delegated to the
LoCo Council) accountable to the Ubuntu Community Council.
One thing we usually also do is include our locoteam logo (to make it
very clear that those aren't official/Canonical Ubuntu t-shirts).
I hope this helps you & other locoteams. :)
