That's something you cannot do in your free time IMHO. And if you do it full-time, you need the money to cover your expenses... Of course you can donate some part of it to your LoCo. On the other hand, in many countries software piracy is still so high (even in the EU), that it doesn't make sense for a company to switch to free/open source software, because they get a pirated copy of Windows for free as well... Recently we had an Ubuntu Users' Conference here in Hungary. We got a lot of support from Canonical, but we also had to find many sponsors locally. I can consider the Conference successful, because there were 300 visitors (that made us the biggest FOSS-related conference this year in Hungary) and we could also raise enough money to let all this happen (we had to pay for venue, food, audio/video support, travel and accomodation costs of several speakers, and of course flyers and we even managed to get a TV commercial for a low fee).
