In further to the discussion that we had at the IRC, I am hereby drafting this mail to update you on activites Ubuntu Tamil Team.
Ubuntu Tamil Team have joined hands with a Chennai Based It Professionals groups named Samarpanam "http://groups.yahoo.com/group/samarpanam/". They inspired the formation of our Team and they are now supporting us.
I would say they are like how Canonical is to Ubuntu. They have provided us a Pesonal Computer and a Broad Band Internet connectivity. They help educating Kids on Ubuntu. We are running a Computer Class every Saturday and Sunday and Teach Kids and give them hands on experience on Ubuntu.
Now as a further step in taking Ubuntu to masses we tied up with Shradha Solutions, Chennai. They market Intel Based low cost PCs. (www.theenterprise.co.in) Now though theier PCs are given with Microsoft we have persuaded them to provide Ubuntu also to their customers. We are looking forward to other Vendors also.
Now we have said to them that we will support their Users on Ubuntu. We need a seperate mailing List for that. The Ubuntu Tamil Users mailing list. Whom should we request ?
Then we have joined hands with them together with the Free Software Foundation, India , in triggering a Signature Campaign requesting the Government here to adopt Free Softwares in Schools and Colleges.
Mr Ramanraj, an Advocate by Profession and Chief of FSF Chennai (www.fsf.org.in) has kindly agreed to preside over a fucntion that will be held on Dec 16 in Chennai. This event is an IT Professionals meet. It will have a Stall on our contributions and Ubuntu as an alternate to Proprietary Softwares.
We extend our heart felt invitation to this as the Loco Team head. We would be much pleased in you could participate and honour us in this event. Would like to hear more from you. we will update you further also.
