India, Srilanka and Singapore have Tamil as one of their official languages.

Hiya Jono,
Name is Rich Johnson, aka nixternal, and I am currently the Ubuntu Chicago
Team Lead/Contact. Ubuntu Chicago is a fairly new development, only a couple
of months old, but that hasn't stopped us from spreading Ubuntu throughout an
area consisting of roughly 9 million people. We have even been known to show
up in pictures with sabdfl himself,

In just the past few months here is what Ubuntu Chicago has done:
* Provided a base for advocacy and support for Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Edubuntu, and
Xubuntu throughout the Chicagoland area.
* Attended tradeshows and conferences expressing the roll Ubuntu can play in
the corporate environment
* Collaborated with the various LUGs throughout the area
* Turned a typical 15 user Linux Install Fest into more than 100 users, of
which more than 80 selected to run Ubuntu or one of its partner projects
* Recently demonstrated the unique differences between Ubuntu, Microsoft, and
Apple (Just got back 15 minutes ago from doing this as a matter of fact).
* Let Apple know that their hardware is good, but DRM stinks! And then
showed them that in order to bypass DRM they could install Ubuntu onto that
amazing piece of hardware ;) Yes, we were next to Apple and Gateway,
displaying Microsoft Word and iTunes running on Ubuntu (yes I know that is
just wrong, but we showed them that if you must live with Office or iTunes,
fear no more, you can do it on Ubuntu ;)
* Future plans
* Procuring advertisement (Billboards, Magazine, Radio, Newspaper)
* Further LUG collaboration (possible UberFest deal in the making)
* Offering FREE support to Ubuntu users in the Chicago land area
* Working out a collaboration with Ubuntu Chicago and FREE GEEK Chicago
(http://www.freegeekchicago.org) to build Ubuntu based systems to donate to
the less fortunate.
* Trying to get in with the local and state government, local schools,
boys and girls clubs, and the YMCA with Edubuntu
That is about it from Ubuntu Chicago. We are trying to become more active on a
daily basis, and we are always looking for good men and women to help us out.

I'm currently proposing myself as LoCo contact for UK Team. I'm
personally really keen to get involved in FOSS in education, if

Hi Jono and everyone else!
I'm currently proposing myself as UK Team LoCo contact (have problems
at the moment, can't sign the code of conduct though the replies I've
had have all encouraged me to put myself down for it). I've been
working on the wiki pages to encourage perticipation, especially
trying to get certain things off the mailing list onto the wiki.
That's helped to encourage discussion around activity rather than
discussion around, well, more discussion!
I'm co-leading Software Freedom Day's Team Cardiff
(http://softwarefreedomday.org/teams/europe/uk/cardiff).
I also run the Photographic Society at Cardiff University, where we'll
be teaching the Gimp next term. I'm in touch with information
services at Cardiff University; they've agreed to put the Gimp on all
the university computers, and I'm working on OpenOffice next! I also
do web design; my current prject is the new Photographic Society site,
running on Drupal (will be all standards, easy on the blind, and not a
table in sight by the time I've finished :-P). I'm really into FOSS
in education and would jump at the chance to get more involved.
I've been a bit of a an Ubuntu fraud for the last few months
(university reliance on windows programs and lack of diskspace forced
me into single-boot windows on my laptop). But I've now got a shiney
server ready to set up an LTSP network, with our laptops in the house
as thin clients.
My favourite colour used to be red, but it's not now. Can it be a
colour as a concept rather than a colour as in a percieved wavelength?
In that case I'd have to go with green and all things eco- and
ethical :)

Perhaps I should add...
We've discussed that we're in a fairly unique position with our LoCo
team, in that it's in the same language as the rest of the Ubuntu
site. We're aware that there's no point doubling up on what's already
available, or splitting it up pointlessly. As such we're not really
using our ubuntu-uk.org at the moment, and instead concentrating our
efforts on the main wiki at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam. The
mailing list is very active, although largely runs independently of
the activity on the wiki (with obvious overlap). We're concentrating
on building a support network around the wiki which will eventually be
useful to "average users" who wouldn't necessarily hang out on the
mailing list. This is intended to be very UK-based, with support tied
to specific geographical areas, and with information about suitable
hardware and where you can get it from in the UK.

Hi Jono and LoCo people,
first I'd like to congratulate for your new job, Jono. I hope you'll
be able to push the community to or even beyond its limits :)
Please let me introduce myself, and the activities of the
not-yet-official Hungarian LoCo Team. The whole LoCo Team was started
because of the localisation, but nowadays it's much more than just
pushing translations to Rosetta. We have built a community site
(ubuntu.hu), which has a wiki with many useful howtos and articles
about various topics, and a forum which has been pretty active for
more than 9 months now (you have to know that most distro's community
homepages die after several weeks in Hungary). With the support of a
free cable television channel we were running a series about Ubuntu,
there were about 4-5 episodes. Our latest big hit is the Hungarian
Ubuntu Conferece, where many well-known community developers have
accepted our invitation - we'll have an English language section, so
everyone is invited, maybe our neighbours could use the chance to come
and visit Budapest while having some Ubuntu fun (please see this page
for further information: http://ubuntu.hu/konf/?q=english). I'd like
to thank Mark and Canonical to let all this happen...
I think the Hungarian Team performs pretty well despite the few active
members (around 8-10 people taking part in the actions mentioned
above). The conference will be good opportunity to bring in some more
fresh power...
