Well, it's either 2. or 3. for Croatian Ubuntu desktop guide :)

I'm not sure what you mean by font not provided by the serif fonts. I
guess you meant characters. šžđćč and ŠĐŽĆČ are available in any UTF8
capable font; (fonts in Ubuntu) Serif, Bistream Vera Serif, DeJavu
Serif... I think same goes for Polish too.
