Hi all,

I will include uDig 2.0.0RC1 in the next nightly build so we can test if it is working ok. Thanks to the uDig project for having a smaller disk size footprint for this release :)

Best,
Angelos

Hi Frank,

I'm looping Angelos into this conversation who is our build manager.

With regards to selecting the version to install on OSGeo-Live, our policy is select stability over bleeding edge.

We are targeting new users who will be less tolerant to potential errors, and if they want to see the latest features, they can always go to the project's website to find out more. Based on that logic, I'd suggest version 1.4.0 would probably be preferable to (potentially unstable) 2.0.0RC1. I'm open to being convinced otherwise.

Hi Jody,

With regards to selecting a WMS for UDig, can you please select one of the datasets already on OSGeo-Live. We aim to have OSGeo-Live demos able to be run when not connected to the internet, as is sometimes the case in workshops. The mapserver WMS is preferred to GeoServer for demos as it doesn't use as much RAM.

I'll answer your other questions in another thread.

Cheers, Cameron

Just reviewed the current state of Codebase. It looks like 1.4.0 is configured (see install_udig.sh). <https://github.com/OSGeo/OSGeoLive/blob/master/bin/install_udig.sh#L51>

Q: Is there still time to upgrade to 2.0.0.RC1? What about the Review Milestone of the docs, does it include changeing installations?

    Quickly looking at:

    1) https://live.osgeo.org/en/quickstart/udig_quickstart.html
<https://live.osgeo.org/en/quickstart/udig_quickstart.html>

    The WMS

<http://www2.dmsolutions.ca/cgi-bin/mswms_gmap?Service=WMS&VERSION=1.1.0&REQUEST=GetCapabilities>
    is no longer active; suggest replace with demo.boundlessgeo.com
<http://demo.boundlessgeo.com> (which was just setup on new hardware).

    (we could also rewrite this section to use a local WMS service on
    the VM)

    The "data tab" no longer points to refractions (since they have
    shut down the udig wiki), looks like they are holding on to a
    static copy here

    Can we add the LocationTech logo to this (and other) LocationTech
    projects?

        Hi folks,

        I'll have a look at within the next two days. First I need to
        verify the version has been upgraded ;)
        Basically the workflow hasn't changes since the major changes
        from 1.4 to 2.0. are the core-libraries uDig is based on
        (GeoTools, Eclipse, Jts).

        I'll let you know about my findings this week
